Elvio Dos Santos, known in Capoeira as Mestre Tigrão, was born in Guarulhos, São Paulo, Brazil. He began training Capoeira at the age of 10 years and has not stopped since, continuing to train and improve in all aspects of Capoeira and constantly searching for new techniques.
Mestre Barrãozinho s classes focus on creativity and self-expression, allowing hos students to explore their individuality within the Capoeira framework.
Amanda ‘Instrutora Tupi’ Torres has been training, teaching and performing with Axé Capoeira for 15 years. She is currently teaching a chapter in South Vancouver at Sunset Community Centre. She is also an Axé Capoeira Performance Team performer with over 1000 shows completed all over the province of BC. Instrutora Tupi travels annually and has participated and competed in numerous Capoeira events around the world. She currently has two 1st place champion titles on her record and hopes to continue to keep her title and represent Capoeira internationally.
Mestre Testa (Kevin Brett) began training Capoeira 30 years ago as one of Mestre Barrão’s first students in Canada. After a 7 year apprenticeship with his mentor, he took over full time teaching duties of the group in Victoria, BC, always maintaining a strong connection with his teacher. The Victoria Academy quickly became well known internationally as a strong reference for Capoeira worldwide, developing many high level capoeiristas up to the level of Professor. Testa participated in all but the first of Mestre Barrão’s CDs, and later recorded his own tracks on Volume 4 and Vou Embolar. He leads a 9 piece band, Batuque Axé which performs to critical acclaim both locally and abroad and wrote and recorded his first Capoeira Album, A Tradição, in 2019. A true adherent to the belief that Capoeira is a complete art form, he’s developed a rich cultural tradition in the city where he lives. Because of the high level of his students and his work, Kevin has been invited to teach in many locations across Canada & The US, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Poland, China, Russia, Kazakhstan, The Dominican Republic and Turkey. Axé Capoeira Victoria currently offers professional instruction in Capoeria, Music, Dance & Vale Tudo to both children and adults and runs classes out of it’s downtown academy as well as the University of Victoria.

Julius Spain, Mestrando Jay "Camara" lived in New York City where he first saw Capoeira and was introduced into Brazilian culture in the late 1970s. After traveling to Brazil numerous times in the 1980s, he decided to move to Vancouver, Canada and began training Capoeira in 1990 and became Mestre Barrão's, (founder of Grupo Axé Capoeira) first Capoeira student in North America. Mestrando Jay ”Camara” moved back to the United States to Phoenix, Arizona after many years of training with Mestre Barrão in Vancouver, Canada where he started Axé Capoeira Arizona in 1999 at Arizona State University. Over the past three decades Jay "Camara" has accompanied Mestre Barrão to Capoeira events and encounters in various countries such as Canada, U.S.A and Brazil and has also participated in many other Capoeira events in Mexico, China, Macau, New Zealand and Australia. Jay "Camara" now has Capoeira students who have starred in Hollywood movies, performed in Las Vegas shows and traveled the world for Capoeira. Today, he is the owner and manager of Axé Capoeira Academy in Phoenix, Arizona for over twenty years. Jay "Camara" also fell in love with another Brazilian Martial Arts called Brazilian Jujitsu where he received the rank of Brown Belt in 2021.
